IP based virtual hosting

In IP  based virtual hosting also called dedicated IP hosting each virtual
host has a different IP  address web server is configured with multiple
physical network interface or virtual network interface on the same
physical interface. The issue of IPV4 address exhaustion means that IP address are an Increasingly scarce resources. So the primary justification for a site to use a dedicated IP is to able to use its own SSL certificate rather than a shared certificate. The web server software use the IP address client connects to in order to determine which web site to low the user. IP based virtual hosting is a method to apply different directives based on the IP address and a port request is received on most commonly this is used to server different website on different ports or interface in many cases name based virtual hosting are more convenient because they allow many virtual host to share single address port. IP-based virtual hosting is a method to apply different directives based on the IP address and port a request is received on. Most commonly, this is used to serve different websites on different ports or interfaces.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: As the term IP-basedindicates, the server must have a different IP address/port combination for each IP-based virtual host. This can be achieved by the machine having several physical network connections, or by use of virtual interfaces which are supported by most modern operating systems (see system documentation for details, these are frequently called "ip aliases", and the "ifconfig" command is most commonly used to set them up), and/or using multiple port numbers. In the terminology of Apache HTTP Server, using a single IP address but multiple TCP ports, is also IP-based virtual hosting.
